Sofia Zarzuela (She/Her) has emerged as one of the key figures in the grunge revivalist scene, dubbed the “best scream in New York.” Her music marries the confessional lyrics of Fiona Apple with the unabashed rage of Courtney Love, alternating between lullaby hums (a byproduct of her classical training) and guttural howls. Her live shows are known for their spectacle, during which she often lays on the floor, pantomiming an exorcism while young men thrash punky noise behind her. Her shows, which often feature other female fronted rock bands, have been recognized by Office, Deli, and New York Magazine.
